GODSMACK Concert in LaFargeville 'Went Smoothly'
September 1, 2011According to Newzjunky.com, GODSMACK's August 20 concert in upstate New York which was held at the CanAm Speedway in LaFargeville after promoters decided to move the concert from its proposed location at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown "went smoothly," despite a lower-than-expected attendance of just over 4,000.
AMP Entertainment owner Sebby R. Abbate told reporters at a July 28 press conference the concert was being moved due to "logistical, security and crowd control" issues.
"It wasn't a bad venue to hold a show at," Abbate said. "Attendance-wise, we were a few hundred people short of our anticipated number that we were trying to reach of 3,600 people." About 400 attended the concert with complementary tickets, according to the promoter.
"The concert went smoothly and no sheriffs or state troopers were called in," he added.
Abbate and Watertown city officials were at odds over the use of a baseball park at Alex Duffy Fairgrounds. City leaders were concerned about providing safety, security, adequate bathroom facilities and potential damage to the ballpark. As a result, the city was holding up a permit for the concert.
